Soling Clinic

The Chesapeake Soling Fleet will host a 2-day instructional clinic on Thursday and Friday, August 31st thru September 1st. Two time Soling World Champion, Roman Koch (https://www.segelsport-roman-koch.de/home/about-me/), will lead the clinic using primarily on-the-water coaching and video recording. After-sailing instruction will include classroom critique, review and discussion. Primary focus will be “boat-handling” with an emphasis on time-tested techniques and maneuvers that Roman and his teams have developed over years of experience competing with the Soling Class — including equipment, sailors, and events at worldwide venues. Strategic and tactical racing instruction, especially with emphasis on understanding and employing the Racing Rules of Sailing, will also be included as circumstances permit.

Admission to the clinic will be on a first-come-first-serve basis with priority given first to SSA Soling Fleet members, ISA (International Soling Association) members and their crew until July 15. After July 15, the clinic will be open to all SSA members. Members can participate as crew on a Member’s boat or experienced helmspersons may request a loaner boat to participate.

Roman will conduct this clinic gratis as courtesy to the Chesapeake Soling Fleet. The total cost to the Fleet will be $1070 in reimbursement of certain travel expenses for Roman and any other costs incurred by the Fleet. Fees for the clinic will be shared equally by participants (approximately $70 per person if 5 boats participate) Up to 9 boats will be admitted.
